Grant to help Hattiesburg pay for new welcome center
SUMMARY: A bill signed last month provides nearly $7 million in grants to revitalize downtown areas across Mississippi. The Mississippi Main Street Revitalization Grant Program funds various projects, including a new welcome center in Hattiesburg. This century-old building will be renovated with half a million dollars to house Visit Hattiesburg and the Downtown Hattiesburg Association. The new center aims to promote local businesses, tourism, and community pride. Future plans include public art, bike rentals, and potentially a Hattiesburg history museum. Renovations are expected to start in late 2024 or early 2025. Leaders are excited about the positive impact on the city.
