SUMMARY: Grand Prairie ISD is seeking to fire Superintendent Dr. Jorge Arondo, facing delays due to state court rulings. The case may now move to federal court, where a judge will decide its jurisdiction. Arondo remains unaware of the specific allegations against him. His attorney argues that the law mandates notifying him of any claims and allowing him to respond. Allegations against him include violating a policy on discrimination, which he denies. Meanwhile, the school district contends that sovereign immunity shields them, complicating Arondo’s legal battle. He is currently on unpaid administrative leave and seeks resolution to return to work.

Texas Supreme Court opinion clears path for Robert Roberson’s execution

SUMMARY: The Texas Supreme Court has cleared the way for Robert Roberson’s execution, which was delayed after lawmakers requested his testimony, believing he may be innocent. The court ruled that lawmakers cannot block the execution but can still call Roberson to testify. His execution was originally scheduled for October 17th, but the Anderson County DA now has to file a new petition, and the execution could occur no earlier than 90 days after that. Lawmakers on the bipartisan committee, which previously called witnesses, maintain their belief in his innocence. Roberson’s attorneys may attempt a final appeal.

The Supreme Court ruled that lawmakers cannot stop executions through a legislative subpoena. The opinion clears the way for the execution of Roberson, who was convicted of murder in a 2002 shaken baby case.

Aviation experts caution that lithium batteries, common in smartphones, pose a significant fire risk, having been linked to numerous incidents. Fortunately, the flight was delayed, preventing a potential mid-air disaster. SUMMARY: A Texas advocate is urging the incoming Trump administration and Congress to reevaluate federal policies that use taxpayer funds for abortions for unaccompanied alien children (UACs). The U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has faced scrutiny for issues like trafficking, sexual abuse, and poor oversight of UACs. Advocates for abortion access argue UACs should receive taxpayer-funded abortions, citing exceptions under the Hyde Amendment. Critics, like Sheena Rodriguez of Alliance for a Safe Texas, demand transparency on the number of abortions performed on UACs, the costs, and the involvement of abortion-related organizations.
