Grand jury investigation uncovers mismanagement in pandemic education relief funds
SUMMARY: The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office has criticized the handling of $40 million in federal COVID relief funds intended for struggling families, labeling it as “irresponsible, disappointing, and indefensible.” A recent grand jury report concluded that Governor Kevin Stitt and State Superintendent Ryan Walters lacked oversight, preventing vulnerable families from accessing aid during the pandemic. Stitt ignored federal recommendations and entrusted the distribution to nonprofit organizations aligned with school choice, leading to questionable practices, including early access for select families. While the grand jury did not find criminal wrongdoing, ongoing investigations may continue, with calls for further scrutiny from state lawmakers.

Reaction to Walters' prayer video for OK students
SUMMARY: Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters faced backlash over a prayer video he wanted played in schools, expressing support for President Donald Trump and criticizing the “radical left” and teachers’ unions. While the video garnered thousands of views online, many school districts opted not to show it, citing concerns over indoctrination and emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in public education. Critics argue that the focus should be on improving educational outcomes rather than engaging in culture wars. The Attorney General’s office called Walters’ directive unenforceable, asserting it undermines local control and parental rights in education.
