Gov. Reeves signs legislation bringing $10B investment from Amazon Web Services into Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s Governor Tate Reeves has authorized a significant investment by Amazon Web Services (AWS), involving $10 billion for constructing two data centers in Madison County. The state is committing $44 million for infrastructure, with a $215.1 million loan to the county to support the project, set to be completed by 2027. It’s expected to create 1,000 jobs, with most positions offering a $70,000 annual salary. AWS also plans to enhance local STEAM education with industry-relevant training. This marks a major economic milestone for Mississippi, five years after initial considerations by AWS, leveraging the state’s strategic location near major fiber optic routes.

Charter schools in Mississippi are working: Let’s give more families the opportunity
SUMMARY: As a member of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and the Mississippi Charter Schools Association, I’ve observed the challenges faced by Mississippi students and the transformative role of charter schools. With only 10 charter schools currently in operation, the data shows significant improvements in student outcomes, especially in reading, math, and science proficiency. Expanding charter schools can provide more personalized learning opportunities and foster healthy competition within the education system. To better serve families and address educational disparities, I urge the Mississippi Legislature to pass House Bill 1432, enabling charter schools to expand and improve access to quality education statewide.
