Gov. Reeves declares April as Safe Digging Month, encourages residents to call 811
SUMMARY: April has been designated “Safe Digging Month” in Mississippi by Gov. Tate Reeves to promote the use of Mississippi 811’s free call system before commencing any digging activities to prevent damage to underground utilities. This initiative aims to avoid service disruptions, environmental harm, injury, or death caused by unintentionally striking underground lines. Homeowners and professionals alike are reminded to call 811 ahead of time to have utilities marked to ensure safety. They’re advised to plan ahead, confirm marking of lines, reconsider dig sites close to marked utilities, and ensure contractors have made the 811 call. For more information on safe digging practices, Mississippi residents can visit the Mississippi 811 website.
