SUMMARY: Mississippi is lifting its partial statewide burn ban after nearly three months, thanks to reduced wildfire activity following recent rainfall. Governor Tate Reeves announced that the ban, which affected 70 counties to mitigate fire risks during severe drought conditions, will end on November 16. Throughout the drought, firefighters tackled 1,506 wildfires, saving approximately 2,679 structures from approximately 21,919 burned acres. Despite the state-level ban’s lift, 27 counties may maintain their local bans based on decisions by their boards of supervisors. These areas now have the option to lift, extend, or let the ban expire according to set deadlines.
