Going The Extra Mile
SUMMARY: On Friday, people across Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley were in a giving spirit, donating turkeys for the 12th Annual Turkey Drive. Some had personal reasons for giving, like honoring loved ones or giving back after a lottery win. The drive aims to ensure everyone has a holiday meal, and while it has ended, donations are still needed at local food banks. Cash donations also help, as every bit counts. Many giving back expressed gratitude and acknowledged the possibility of one day needing help themselves, emphasizing the importance of community support during tough times.

The hype behind raw milk and the dangers that come with it | THV11+
SUMMARY: In Arkansas, a debate over raw versus pasteurized milk is heating up as advocates claim raw milk offers life-changing health benefits, while experts warn of severe public health risks. Currently, raw milk sales are illegal unless purchased directly from a farm, leading to long drives for customers like the Ballard family, who sell it at $21 per gallon. Proponents, including State Senator Alan Clark, are pushing a bill to amend this law, framing it as a matter of choice. Conversely, food safety expert Dr. Jennifer Acuff emphasizes the risks associated with raw milk, stressing that pasteurized milk remains safer overall.
Ignoring dire warnings from public health experts across the country, consumers here in Arkansas want the law changed to get unpasteurized milk in more places.

Carbon monoxide risks rise in cold weather
SUMMARY: As freezing temperatures and wintry conditions grip much of the US, the Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that carbon monoxide poisoning risks rise during this time. Carbon monoxide, an invisible and odorless gas, can be deadly if not managed properly. The CDC advises installing alarms, inspecting fuel-burning appliances annually, and never using portable generators indoors. The gas poses a higher risk to infants, older adults, and people with heart or breathing issues. Symptoms of poisoning include headache, dizziness, and confusion. If suspected, immediately get fresh air and call 911. In 2023, about 100 people died from carbon monoxide poisoning linked to generators.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says this time of the year is when they see the most deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning.
