SUMMARY: During day two of Jose Ibarra’s murder trial for the killing of nursing student Lakan Riley, law enforcement witnesses provided testimony about their findings from the day after the murder. Officers recounted their responses to the Argo Apartments, where they first encountered Ibarra’s brother, Diego. Body cam footage revealed Diego had no apparent injuries, while Jose, found asleep, had scratches on his arms. The prosecution highlighted differences between the brothers and noted DNA evidence linking Lakan to a hat seen on a suspect. The defense is attempting to confuse their identities as the trial continues. Coverage is ongoing.

The trial of a man accused of killing nursing student Laken Riley continues in Athens, with testimony expected to focus on evidence presented during Friday’s opening session.

Jose Ibarra, charged in Riley’s February death, waived his right to a jury trial, leaving Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard to decide his fate.

SUMMARY: A new petition is calling for Rockdale County to revoke Biolab’s business license following a chemical fire at the facility in September, which caused widespread health issues and evacuations. The fire, the third at the lab since 2004, affected thousands of families and businesses. While some residents and business owners support the petition, others prefer the lab be relocated rather than shut down. The petition’s supporters plan a news conference in December to discuss the health impacts of chemical exposure and potential legislative changes. Rockdale County and Biolab have not yet responded to the petition.

The petition is to demand that the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners revoke BioLab’s business license.
