Gautier’s Kaden Irving signs with Ole Miss baseball
Not too long ago, Gautier quarterback Kaden Irving joined an elite club, surpassing 10,000 passing yards for his varsity career. Next week, he’ll be one of just four players in the state to receive his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey.
But on the eve of his team’s first round playoff game, Irving is signing his national letter of intent with the Ole Miss baseball program.

MGCCC celebrates 300th CDL graduate from West Harrison County Center
SUMMARY: Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s West Harrison County Center recently celebrated its 300th Commercial Truck Driving (CDL) graduate. Alvin Felts, who passed his exam on October 12, set the milestone for the program, which began in 2017. The program averages 47 graduates per year, with many students starting without experience. It includes not only driving skills but also career readiness training in resume writing, interview prep, financial literacy, and soft skills. The program is offered at no cost to qualifying participants through the Gulf Coast Work Ready Grant. Felts is excited to begin his career, feeling confident and well-prepared.

84% of Mississippi 3rd graders pass reading assessment for 2023-24 school year
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Education announced that 84% of third graders passed the 2023-24 reading assessment, slightly down from 84.9% in the previous year. However, a record 57.7% achieved proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA), continuing a positive trend since 2016. The Literacy-Based Promotion Act requires third graders to score at least Level 3 to be promoted to fourth grade, with support for schools focusing on high-quality materials and Science of Reading training. Students can attempt the test three times, and those who do not pass may be retained unless qualifying for certain exemptions.
