Gardening during the winter months
SUMMARY: Gardeners are busy even in the cooler months, especially if freezing temperatures are in the forecast. Our Hannah Hayes has the details on the winter gardening season. Late fall through early spring is the ideal growing months for Mississippi. One gardener, Jennifer Smith, says that there are ups and downs to growing in the winter. Smith says that there are pros and cons to growing greens in the winter, but it’s not as much of a struggle as it is during the summer. Gardeners say that the cooler temperatures should not deter anyone from getting outdoors during the winter. They suggest using a greenhouse to be able to grow almost anything year-round. A reminder from Hannah Hayes on WDAM is to check seed packets before planting to ensure that they are frost-tolerant.

‘Why had they sent me a ring?’: Diamond ring scam impacts Mississippians
SUMMARY: Mississippians are being targeted by a diamond ring scam, where unsolicited packages labeled from “Amazon Fulfillment” arrive containing fake rings and a QR code. Judge Tiffany Grove of Hinds County received one and, after researching it, discovered others had too. The included pamphlet claims the ring is certified by the “Gemological Research Academy”—a fake organization mimicking the legitimate GIA. Experts confirmed the ring is cubic zirconia, not a real diamond. Authorities warn scanning the QR code may lead to phishing sites. The Mississippi Attorney General’s office urges awareness, as mail scams are increasingly used to steal personal information or money.
