Garbage collection prices to increase in Noxubee County

SUMMARY: Noxubee County Supervisors have approved a three to two vote for a price increase in garbage collection services by Waste Pro. This is due to the rising costs for fuel, labor, and broken down trucks and vehicles. Currently, Noxubee County covers $0.91 of each person’s garbage bill and will no longer be able to absorb this cost. The increase will start on January 1, 2024, and the community is concerned about the effects this will have on the lower-income population. District 5 Supervisor Bruce Brooks voted against the increase and is urging the board to find other ways to raise revenues to match expenditures.
