Friendly Park splash pad now open
SUMMARY: charge for all visitors. The local park in Petal has recently added a new splash pad and soccer fields for families to enjoy. The project was completed in February of 2023, and is now open just in time for spring break. The park is a popular spot for families in the area and is open from 8 AM to 8 PM every day. The splash pad and soccer fields are free to use and have been well received by the community.
The Friendly Park splash pad in the Robert E. Russell Sportsplex is making waves across the Pine Belt.

Man killed when asphalt dumped onto him
SUMMARY: A horrific accident occurred Monday morning when 41-year-old Darrell Sheriff died after being buried under a truckload of hot asphalt at AJ Materials in Jackson. According to JPD Chief Joseph Wade, the incident happened when the work truck malfunctioned while Sheriff was loading asphalt, causing it to unload and bury him. Chief Wade expressed condolences to the victim’s traumatized family, describing Sheriff as a good, hardworking family man. The police are investigating the incident as an accident, and efforts are being made to support the grieving family during this tragic time.
