SUMMARY: Russell County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Fips was killed in the line of duty over a week ago. He served for three years and was known for his dedication to protecting the community. The Kentucky State Police’s investigation indicates the incident began with a traffic stop by Trooper Jake Smith, whose suspect, Joshua Arnold, fled and fired at him. Deputy Fips and other officers responded to the scene, where they encountered Arnold, leading to both sustaining life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both were hospitalized but later died. The investigation remains ongoing, with findings subject to change.

Deputy Phipps served as a Russell County Deputy for three years and those who knew him say he loved his job and took great pride in protecting the people of Russell County.

Franklin’s Nights of Lights brings holiday joy
