Linda Lavin, Tony-winning Broadway actor who starred in the sitcom ‘Alice,’ dies at 87
SUMMARY: Linda Lavin, the Tony Award-winning actress known for her role as Alice Hyatt on the TV sitcom *Alice*, has died at 87 from complications of lung cancer. Lavin made her Broadway debut and won a Tony in 1987 for *Broadway Bound*. She starred in *Alice* from 1976 to 1985, where her character became a working-class icon. Lavin also appeared on Broadway in *The New Century* and *Collected Stories*, and earned praise in later roles, including in *The Lyons* and *Follies*. She recently worked on Netflix’s *No Good Deed* and Hulu’s *Mid-Century Modern*. Lavin’s legacy includes a strong theater career and advocacy for hard work in the arts.
