SUMMARY: Jesus Rios, a Fort Worth man, accepted a 15-year plea deal for the murder of Fernando Mendoza Jr. in 2020, occurring after Rios shot Mendoza over a speeding confrontation. While out on bond, Rios fled to Mexico, where he allegedly committed a second murder of key witness Myra Gara, later found dead. Rios was arrested while attempting to return to the U.S. with a fake ID. Both victims’ families express dissatisfaction with the plea deal, feeling justice was not served. They are awaiting potential extradition for Rios to face charges related to Gara’s murder.

Jesus Rios took a plea deal for killing a Fort Worth man. But while out on bond and fleeing to Mexico, police say he killed a witness to that murder “for the purpose of preventing her from testifying.”
