Forrest Co, gives update on Petal side of River Avenue project

SUMMARY: The River Avenue Bridge construction is progressing well. Crews have removed the old bridge, installed forms, and poured concrete for three curb inlets at the Carterville Road intersection. They have also graded sections of the limestone base at South Main Street and Carterville Road in Petal. A water line issue caused delays but has been resolved. Workers are now focused on finishing the drainage and inlets. Forest County engineer Nick Conley believes the project is still on track to be completed within the original 2-3 months time frame, as anticipated by county leaders.

USA Track and Field Junior Olympics coming to Jackson

SUMMARY: This summer, in addition to the Paris Olympics, Jackson, USA, will host the Southeast Region Junior Olympics for Track and Field starting Thursday, July 4th. Competitors aged 18 and under from Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi will vie for qualification to the national meet at Texas A&M later this summer. Events will take place at Hughes Field and Millsaps College, bringing significant economic benefits and inspiring local youth. Organizers seek to make this an annual event with state support, promoting track and field in Mississippi. A parade featuring athletes from the four states will be held on Saturday morning.
