Former Old Town coach convicted of sexual battery
SUMMARY: Former Old Town Middle School coach, Marchenne Nyree Hatchett, has been convicted of sexual battery after engaging in sexual contact with a 14-year-old student. The incident occurred on February 23, 2023, and was brought to the attention of school personnel by the child’s mother approximately a week later. Surveillance footage confirmed the victim’s timeline of events, leading to Hatchett’s indictment in May. After a trial, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict. Hatchett will be sentenced on November 13, 2023, and could face up to 30 years in prison. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.
