Former Newton County dispatcher faces up to 10 years for embezzlement

SUMMARY: Shannon Taylor, a former dispatcher for the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, has been and charged with embezzlement and fraud in public office. It is alleged that Taylor altered her timesheets after they were approved by her supervisor. The Auditor’s Office conducted an investigation and Taylor was served with a demand letter for $16,263.72 at the time of her arrest. If convicted, Taylor could face up to 10 years in prison and $5,000 in fines. It is noted that Taylor’s employment at the sheriff’s office was not covered by a surety bond, which protects taxpayers from corruption.
