SUMMARY: Secretary of State Michael Watson defended his office after multiple precincts in Hinds County, Mississippi ran out of ballots during the general election. He blamed local election officials for not being prepared for the expected influx of voters. A chancery court judge ordered polling locations to stay open until 8 p.m., but a specially appointed judge superseded the motion. Watson said that the polling operations were virtually perfect everywhere except in Hinds County. There is speculation of a conspiracy to alter the election results, but former Mississippi GOP chair Lucien Smith said it is highly unlikely. Republicans swept the board in all statewide races, and there are no post-election lawsuits filed regarding the matter in Hinds County.

SUMMARY: The Southwestern Athletic Conference is investigating claims that Jackson State gained access to private practice film of Arkansas-Pine Bluff prior to their November 2 game, which Jackson State won 41-3. Allegations arose from a UAPB player’s report about a Jackson State player discussing film access. The inquiry points to a former walk-on, whose account was traced to Jackson, as the potential source but he denied any wrongdoing. Jackson State officials acknowledged the investigation but stated no violations were found. This comes amidst distractions for the Tigers, including seven player suspensions from a recent altercation.
