Mississippi recorded $21.5 million drop in Q3 gaming revenue
SUMMARY: Mississippi casinos experienced a revenue decline in the third quarter of 2024, contrasting with the overall growth of the U.S. gaming industry, which reported an 8.1% increase. Mississippi’s gaming revenue fell by 3.5% to $605.8 million, following a 2.3% decrease in the second quarter. This marks two consecutive quarters of downturns after a strong start to the year. Despite legal sports betting in the state, revenue could improve with the legalization of mobile sports betting, which was proposed but failed to pass this year. Lawmakers aim to revisit this issue in the 2025 session.

This follows earlier lease negotiations with Long Beach Harbor Resorts for land where an old Kmart was located. The city anticipates $500,000 in annual gaming revenue during the initial years. Construction must begin within three years, with gaming operations launched within five years.
