Former Bolton city clerk taken into custody for embezzlement
SUMMARY: Former Bolton city clerk Shelia Williams has been arrested on embezzlement charges. State Auditor Shad White announced her arrest, stating that she is accused of stealing cash from the city’s water department. Williams could face up to 20 years in prison and $5,000 in fines if found guilty. At her arrest, she received a demand letter for the repayment of $35,882.59. A surety bond of $50,000 was in place to protect against such misconduct, but Williams is still responsible for the full demand amount, in addition to facing criminal charges.
