Ford recalls over 550,000 pickup trucks because transmissions can suddenly downshift to 1st gear

SUMMARY: Ford is recalling over 550,000 F-150 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year in the U.S. due to a transmission defect that can cause unexpected downshifts to first gear, increasing the risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began investigating this issue in March numerous complaints. The problem stems from a lost signal between the transmission speed sensor and the powertrain control computer.
