SUMMARY: The 2023 prep football season in Mississippi started normally, but for teams in the “Southern Six”, the regular season will end differently. Gulfport and Biloxi, who have traditionally closed out the regular season against each other, will now face off in week seven. Ocean Springs and St. Martin will also close the regular season against each other for the first time in nearly two decades. Other new regular season-ending match-ups include Pascagoula vs. George County and Picayune vs. Hancock. In Class 5A, Vancleave will close the season against Laurel for the first time ever, as will Gautier.
