SUMMARY: his weekend we are saying goodbye to the year and the Christmas season. Many people light up their homes and yards with Christmas lights, marking the end of the festive season. Some popular displays, like the Richardsons in Madison and the lights on Canton’s square, will go dark after the holidays but will be back next year. Santa was spotted in Canton, and Jackson has the tallest lights on Capitol Towers. People like Mac Clements in Pearl keep their lights up until January, bringing joy to passers-by. Most people leave their lights up through New Year’s or until January 6th, the traditional end of the 12 days of Christmas.

It has been a pleasant distraction from traffic and reality to have yards to look at driving past on the way home after work at night. Slowly, these yards will start going dark over the weekend and into next week.

SUMMARY: In Jackson’s Democratic mayoral primary, Senator John Horn nearly avoided a runoff despite low voter turnout. Horn will face incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in a runoff on April 22nd, after securing over 7,000 more votes than Lumumba. Many voters, including some who typically lean Republican, supported Horn for his hard campaigning and ability to get things done. However, Horn’s vote share fell short of the 50% needed to avoid a runoff. The winner of the runoff will advance to the June 3rd general election. Voters are seeking a mayor who is transparent and effective in managing city resources.

He highlights both benefits, such as increased access to health information, and drawbacks, including reduced physical activity and disrupted sleep patterns due to screen exposure. Dr. Quinn observes that technology often distracts users, leading to time loss and decreased engagement in daily activities. He suggests a technology detox, advocating for 24-hour breaks from social media to foster mental well-being.
