SUMMARY: Kentucky’s general fund revenues exceeded expectations, with over $1.4 billion collected in January 2024, a 5% increase from the previous year. Strong sales tax revenue set a January record at $603 million, up nearly 3% from last January. Business income tax receipts surged nearly five-fold, totaling $132.5 million. Meanwhile, property taxes rose almost 7%. Despite these gains, personal income tax revenue fell by 9.4% due to a reduced tax rate, dropping to $439.2 million. Additionally, coal severance and cigarette tax revenues saw significant declines. Overall, total revenues for the first seven months reached nearly $9.3 billion, up $200 million year-on-year.
