Published

www.clickorlando.com – Shafiqur Rahman And Julhas Alam, Associated Press – 2025-03-08 22:38:00

SUMMARY: Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are increasingly alarmed by the U.S. decision to halve food rations starting next month, impacting over a million people and worsening their nutritional situation. A refugee relief official noted that the cut, from $12.50 to $6 per month, will create social and mental pressures within the community. The World Food Program announced these reductions despite uncertainty about their link to U.S. funding cuts. Medical care is also deteriorating, with only emergency treatment available. The U.S. has historically been a major donor, providing nearly half of the humanitarian aid for Rohingya refugees, but overall support is declining.

SUMMARY: The National Fire Academy (NFA) in Maryland, a vital training institution for firefighters and first responders, canceled all classes immediately due to funding freezes and staffing cuts imposed by the Trump administration. FEMA announced the cancellations as part of an evaluation of agency programs to align with federal priorities. The NFA, which was established to address rising fire fatalities and is regarded as essential for training, surprised many with last-minute notifications, impacting planned travel for participants. Critics, including experienced fire officials, expressed concern that shutting down such programs would hinder coordinated responses to emergencies, particularly in wildfire-prone regions.
