Florida braces for tropical downpours as system tracks toward Gulf of Mexico
SUMMARY: A tropical wave is currently over Puerto Rico and heading toward the Dominican Republic, bringing potential flooding rains. Although the system is weak due to being wrapped in Saharan dust, it is forecasted to track westward over land before entering the Gulf of Mexico, suggesting increased rain potential by late this weekend into next week. While models indicate it may slow down and possibly stall, leading to significant rainfallโpotentially over a foot in some areasโforecasting its intensity and track remains uncertain. Overall, heavy rain and flooding risks are likely as the system approaches the Gulf Coast.
The philosophy of the models of where the tropical wave would track featured a days-long consensus that it would most likely track into the Atlantic, but as of Thursday, models have shifted to the Gulf of Mexico, in general agreement.

Judge rejects call for recusal in Trump assassination case | Florida
SUMMARY: U.S. Judge Aileen Cannon, appointed by Donald Trump, denied a request for recusal from Ryan Wesley Routh, accused of attempting to assassinate Trump. Routh’s defense argued that Cannon’s past rulings favoring Trump created a conflict of interest, suggesting her assignment to this case was questionable. Routh, who has pleaded not guilty, faces charges related to firearm possession and stalking Trump. Cannon asserted that her judicial decisions are not influenced by Trump or her prior relationship with a prosecutor involved in the case. She reiterated that cases are assigned randomly, emphasizing her impartiality and lack of personal ties with Trump.
