Knowing the snake’s determination, the outcome was clear: the amphiuma would soon be swallowed whole despite its ability to deliver a painful bite. Water snakes are equipped with flexible jaws to consume large prey. This encounter highlighted the amphiuma’s rarity, as they are nocturnal and primarily inhabit burrows.
