Fishermen have ‘crappie’ day, fined $10K for illegal harvest

SUMMARY: Two men from Tennessee were fined over $10,000 for catching an illegal number of fish at Enid Lake in north Mississippi. Jian Wu Huang, 50, and Qui M Huang, 44, caught 171 crappie, exceeding the state law limit of 15 per day. They were also found to be using oversized hooks and exceeding the maximum number of hooks allowed per line. The fines were issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge David A. Sanders, who also placed the defendants on probation for a year and banned them from fishing and Corps of Engineers property in the Northern District of Mississippi.
