SUMMARY: A new vending machine for Narcan, designed to reverse opioid overdoses, was unveiled at Rise Recovery’s Charlie Naylor campus in San Antonio. This initiative is crucial as Bear County has seen a rise in fatal overdoses, outpacing the Texas state average. San Antonio’s Chief Mental Health Officer, Jesse Higgins, emphasized the need for accessibility to Narcan, which is 80% effective if administered within five minutes of an overdose. While Narcan is available over-the-counter for about $45, this vending machine provides it for free at 2803 Moss Rock, promoting proactive measures in overdose prevention.

San Antonio now has its first Narcan vending machine, and it’s free.
