First named storm of 2024 Atlantic hurricane season likely to develop this week

A low-pressure area is developing over the Bay of Campeche, with conditions favorable for it to become a tropical depression or storm as it moves toward the western Gulf coast. While not a direct threat to south Mississippi, the region may experience heavy rainfall through Tuesday. Another system near Florida could develop as it nears the southeast U.S. coast later this week. The first storm of the season would be named Alberto. The Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to investigate the system on Monday.
