Capitol complex district expands in Jackson
SUMMARY: Starting next week, House Bill 14-87, sponsored by Mississippi Representative Shanda Yates, will come into effect, altering the Capitol Police's jurisdiction to better address crime. Jackson residents, including Melanie Norwood, are hopeful it will decrease local crime. Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey emphasized the importance of community engagement and feedback in law enforcement, encouraging public participation in related events. Currently, the Capitol Police have 153 active officers, but the jurisdiction expansion is expected to enhance their capacity. The bill's new boundaries aim to improve community safety and involve citizens more directly in crime prevention efforts.

WDAM 7 Morning Commute: Green Light Alert – June 26, 2024
SUMMARY: Good morning, Pine Belt. This is Amy Posie with the morning commute updates. In Laurel, Teresa Street is undergoing railroad repairs through Thursday, so avoid the section between Cross Street and Front Street. In Jones County, the intersection of Mississippi Highway 529 and Short 7 Road is closed for emergency repairs until 4 PM. Alternate routes include Summerland Road and Jeff Coat Road up to John Fur Road. In Lamar County, Mississippi Highway 589 is a long-term project lasting until July 26th. Be cautious of workers. Fire breaks out at house in South Jackson
