SUMMARY: Good morning, South Mississippi! It’s been a chilly start, with frost and ice on windshields, but temperatures are now above freezing. Expect warming to mid-50s by noon, with rain moving in tonight due to a system west of us. Heavy rain could start by 3 PM and continue overnight. Scattered showers are likely during Monday’s morning commute, but skies should clear by midday. Temperatures will stay cold early this week, with lows in the 30s and highs in the mid-50s. Next weekend could bring warmer temperatures in the 60s. Also, look for the Wolf Moon and lunar occultation of Mars Monday night.

SUMMARY: In Mississippi, the debate over expanding Medicaid is central to improving healthcare access in a state with high poverty and chronic illness rates. Despite being one of ten states that has not expanded Medicaid, opponents argue that it would strain resources and worsen existing healthcare system problems. Governor Tate Reeves and others advocate for private insurance solutions and reduced government involvement, proposing reforms like telehealth expansion and reduced prescription costs. Meanwhile, proponents of Medicaid expansion point to successes in other states, like Ohio and Arkansas, in reducing uninsured rates and improving health outcomes, though some caution about long-term consequences.
