Firefighters don’t just battle flames during the summer
SUMMARY: Firefighters face not only the dangers of flames but also heat-related illnesses, especially in summer. Staying hydrated is crucial, and during active fires, district chiefs ensure additional resources and manpower are on standby. Deputy Fire Chief Cleotha Sanders highlights the importance of mental preparation, as firefighters frequently encounter traumatic incidents far more often than the average person. Recognizing this, the Jackson Fire Department is developing a mental health and wellness facility to support their firefighters. Sanders emphasizes that maintaining good mental health is essential for physical well-being, ensuring firefighters can effectively perform their duties.
