SUMMARY: The second-longest writers’ strike in Hollywood history is ending with the signing of an agreement that would give writers better pay and benefits. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) reached a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on Wednesday. The agreement includes provisions to increase writers’ compensation, minimum pay, health fund rates, and pensions, as well as improve employment duration and team sizes. The agreement also aims to increase residuals for writers and ban the use of AI software to replace or reduce the number of writers. The strike has caused delays in film projects and put some on hold indefinitely. The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is still on strike but is expected to begin separate negotiations with AMPTP.

The affected premises are quarantined, and the flock has been depopulated to prevent disease spread, with no birds entering the food system. This is the first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Mississippi’s commercial poultry since spring 2023.
