While Jordan’s attorney cited personal obligations for the extension, the Mississippi Attorney General‘s office seeks to set an execution date, arguing that all previous appeals have been denied. Jordan has also challenged the state’s planned execution methods involving midazolam and other drugs.

SUMMARY: Tayshon Holmes, a teenager who escaped a Jackson detention center multiple times, has pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide for the 2021 killing of Bill Calvin, Jr. He was 15 at the time of the murder, which involved shooting Calvin in the head. After his escapes in June 2023 and January 2024, Holmes and his accomplices reportedly stole multiple vehicles and carjacked a woman. Holmes was sentenced to 40 years, with 30 years for homicide and 10 for carjacking, to be served consecutively.
