Federal judges order state lawmakers to redraw legislative districts
SUMMARY: Federal judges have ordered Mississippi lawmakers to redraw legislative districts, finding that current lines weaken Black voters' influence in three regions. The mandate stems from a lawsuit by the Mississippi NAACP and Black residents. It requires creating a new majority-Black House district in Chickasaw and Monroe counties and new majority-Black Senate districts around DeSoto County and Hattiesburg. The state's Attorney General's office hasn't decided on an appeal. Legislative districts are redrawn post-census to reflect population shifts. For continuous updates, follow WCBI on Facebook and X.
