SUMMARY: A case of meningococcal disease has been confirmed at HISD’s Botom Elementary School in southwest Houston. District officials have notified parents and are in communication with the Houston Health Department. Students and staff who may have come into contact with the affected individual have been informed. Meningococcal disease can manifest as meningitis or bloodstream infections, with symptoms including fever, headache, stiff neck, and nausea.
