SUMMARY: Long-time Lexington Farmers Market vendor Paul Corrl, known for his breads, meats, jams, and salsas, faces an unexpected ban from the market effective February 15. After over 20 years of participation, Corrl’s application was reportedly rejected due to a missed deadline, though he disputes this, noting other vendors submitted late yet were still accepted. The situation has left him frustrated, as his farm provides a substantial portion of his family’s income. Despite the setback, Corrl encourages continued support for smaller vendors at the market, while seeking clarity from the market board, which has not yet responded.

SUMMARY: A new species of ancient shark, Clavusodens mcginnisi, was discovered in Mammoth Cave National Park, identified from fossil teeth in the Ste. Genevieve Formation. Named for its nail-like back teeth, this small obruchevodid petalodont, or “Chipmunk shark,” measured 3-4 inches and foraged on crustaceans and small marine life. The species honors David McGinnis, a retired National Park Service superintendent. The Ste. Genevieve Formation, dating back 340 million years, contains a rich fossil record, with over 70 identified shark species, including four new ones recently. This discovery enhances understanding of ancient shark evolution in the region.
