FEMA representatives coming to storm-affected areas
SUMMARY: FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance teams and home inspectors will be assisting survivors of major disasters and severe weather in Jackson and Jasper counties. FEMA’s DSA teams are going door-to-door in these areas to help residents that want to apply for federal assistance and answer any disaster assistance-related questions. Meanwhile, home inspectors will be scheduling checks for damage. Other disaster recovery personnel may also be present but they are not associated with FEMA’s disaster assistance application process. Assistance can also be sought online or by calling FEMA’s helpline.

Community leaders receive prestigious awards at Chamber-Main Street Annual Meeting
SUMMARY: On February 19, 2025, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street Tourism Bureau held its annual community awards ceremony, celebrating individuals who significantly contributed to the community in 2024. The awards recognized various categories, including Community Leader of the Year awarded to Rickey Authement and Educator of the Year to Angela Shelby. Southern Miss Alumna Helps Make History at John C. Stennis Space Center
SUMMARY: Tessa Keating, a University of Southern Mississippi alumna, plays a key role in promoting NASA’s Artemis lunar missions at the John C. Stennis Space Center. A Carriere, Miss. native, she earned her master’s degree in communications from USM in 2006 and began her career at NASA as an intern. Today, as the protocol officer, Keating oversees events and high-level visits while educating the public on space exploration. In 2024, she received the prestigious Silver Snoopy Award for her contributions to NASA Stennis. Keating is passionate about promoting the Artemis program and its historic milestones in space exploration.

MGCCC’s Dr. Zach Moulds named Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished College Administrator
SUMMARY: Dr. Zach Moulds, Dean of Student Services at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Harrison County Campus, has been awarded the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Distinguished College Administrator for 2025. This recognition acknowledges college leaders dedicated to student success, as nominated by PTK students. Moulds will be honored at the PTK Annual Convention, Catalyst 2025, in Kansas City from April 3-5. He emphasized the importance of the opportunities provided by PTK and MGCCC for student development. Moulds, who joined MGCCC in 2019 and holds multiple degrees, expressed gratitude for the award and pride in his team’s efforts.
