FEMA approves request for Madison County to receive assistance following June tornadoes
SUMMARY: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Mississippi's request for an additional county to receive public assistance following tornadoes and severe storms in June. Now, certain entities in Madison County are able to receive funding for disaster relief. The funds are available to local governments and eligible non-profit agencies to assist in emergency work costs and repairing or replacing damaged facilities. FEMA has also listed the other counties eligible for assistance. The assistance provided is for municipalities and counties recovering from major disasters, and not for homeowners or business owners.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

The state won in the “fewer than 3 million population” category due to innovative policies that create jobs and attract businesses. Governor Tate Reeves celebrated the recognition, acknowledging the hard work of many. SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
