Federal money heads to Webster County to build new jail
SUMMARY: Webster County, Mississippi, plans to replace its outdated jail built in 1964, which no longer meets current standards. Sheriff David Gore emphasized the need for a new facility, which will be located behind the courthouse on land already equipped with essential utilities. Designed by architect Belinda Stewart, the new brick jail will also serve as a storm shelter for both inmates and the community. The construction has been in progress since November 2019 and is anticipated to be completed by 2026. The improvement aims to enhance public safety and modernize detention services in the county.
