Federal judge transfers control of Jackson sewer system to Henifin

SUMMARY: A U.S. District Court Judge has approved an order to transfer control of the Jackson sewer system to Ted Henifin, who is currently managing the city’s drinking water system. Henifin will now be responsible for managing and operating the city’s sewer and water system. This transfer of control is an effort to expedite sewer system repairs needed throughout the city, as the system has deteriorated over the last decade. Henifin will have the authority to operate and maintain the sewer system in compliance with relevant permits, implement capital improvements, and carry out a list of priority repair projects with an estimated cost of $130 million.
