Federal grant will allow USM to create digital forensics project
SUMMARY: Southern Miss has received a $3 million federal grant from the US Department of Justice to enhance rural law enforcement’s capacity to investigate crimes involving digital evidence. The initiative includes establishing a digital forensic laboratory on campus for processing materials like cell phones and laptops. Additionally, training materials will be developed for law enforcement officers nationwide, focusing on the principles of digital forensics to aid in crime-solving. This four-year project will involve students, faculty, and staff from various disciplines, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

'In-person' absentee voting underway
SUMMARY: Voters in Jones County are actively utilizing absentee voting options, with over 100 individuals casting ballots daily, according to Circuit Clerk Greg Dickerson. For the next two Saturdays, all Mississippi circuit clerk offices will open from 8 AM to noon for in-person absentee voting.
