SUMMARY: After the recent election, individuals across at least ten states reported receiving racist text messages suggesting they were chosen to “pick cotton at the nearest plantation.” The FBI and law enforcement are investigating these disturbing messages, which have affected various demographics, including college students and middle schoolers. Recipients, like a 24-year-old woman named Maya, expressed shock and hurt upon receiving them. The messages, containing racial slurs, have raised questions about data privacy and the methods used to send them. Experts believe an organization may be behind the messages, aimed at exacerbating political and racial divides in the country.

Racist text messages referencing slavery have raised alarms across the country. Now the FBI and agents in Dallas are looking into the source of the spam aimed at Black Americans.
