Fast food e. coli outbreak in several states that sickened dozens officially closed | Colorado
SUMMARY: An E. coli outbreak linked to onions in McDonald’s quarter pounder hamburgers has been investigated by federal agencies. The outbreak affected 104 individuals, resulting in 34 hospitalizations and one death in Mesa County, Colorado. Taylor Farms, the supplier of the contaminated yellow onions, recalled them on October 22, following cases reported since September 12. Most interviewed patients had consumed McDonald’s items containing the onions. While McDonald’s has ceased serving the recalled onions, the CDC warns that actual cases may be higher, as many recover without seeking medical attention. Symptoms include cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.
