SUMMARY: Live horse racing has resumed at the FanDuel Sportsbook Racetrack in Collinsville, now hosting races on Thursdays in addition to Saturdays and Tuesdays, effective October 17th. This season’s schedule is shortened due to casino construction starting in November, aimed for completion by next May’s Derby. Following FanDuel’s acquisition by Accel Entertainment, future expansion could bring more jobs and tourism, revitalizing the area. Missouri’s upcoming November ballot may legalize sports betting, potentially impacting Collinsville’s business. The new casino plans to feature 250 slot machines, dining options, and summer concerts, promising year-round entertainment for visitors.

Starting Oct. 17, horse races at FanDuel Sportsbook Race Track will now additionally take place on Thursdays, with a shortened schedule this year due to casino construction plans starting in November.

www.ozarksfirst.com – Shannon Rousseau – 2024-12-21 10:30:00

SUMMARY: Missouri Governor Mike Parson commuted the prison sentence of former Kansas City police detective Eric DeValkenaere, who was convicted in 2021 for the 2019 shooting death of Cameron Lamb. DeValkenaere was sentenced to six years in prison but had been serving time since October 2023. Lamb was unarmed when shot. DeValkenaere’s family submitted a clemency request, and Governor-elect Mike Kehoe supported his release. The Lamb family expressed outrage over the decision. While the commutation reduces DeValkenaere’s sentence, it does not forgive his conviction. The situation remains controversial, with mixed reactions from officials and the public.

The upgrades, part of Metro’s Secure Platform Plan, include 8-foot welded wire fencing and secure entry/exit gates, designed to prevent unauthorized access. These measures are already in place at stations like Emerson Park and will expand to others, including Delmar and Forest Park. Security personnel will manually operate gates until a new fare collection system is installed.
