Family keeps tradition of feeding on Thanksgiving alive

The Kelly’s had turkey, gumbo, gravy, dressing, potatoes, corn, pumpkin pie — you name it!

Julie Massengill and her family is keeping a tradition serving free Thanksgiving lunch alive.

The tradition started 39 years ago at her sister’s restaurant, Mr. C’s in Bay St. Louis.

Once the family got out of the restaurant business, Massengill — along with her five children and volunteers — continued to serve over 600 people every year.

An executive, retired waiter, aspiring nurse and football star among 14 killed in New Orleans attack

SUMMARY: On New Year’s Day, 14 people tragically lost their lives when a driver sped through Bourbon Street in New Orleans, injuring around 30 others. Among the victims were Terrence Kennedy, a retired waiter; Billy DiMaio, a devoted family man from New Jersey; and Hubert Gauthreaux, a high school graduate. Other victims included Kareem Badawi, a freshman at Alabama, and Matthew Tenedorio, an audiovisual technician. Nikyra Dedeaux, an aspiring nurse, and Reggie Hunter, a devoted father, also perished. Nicole Perez, a single mother and deli manager, was killed, leaving her young son behind. Families are mourning these senseless losses.
