Extreme temperatures and food can be a dangerous combination
SUMMARY: The Fourth of July celebrations often involve outdoor food, but with the current heatwave, it's important to take precautions to prevent foodborne illnesses. Perishable food should not be left outside or at room temperature for extended periods, as the high heat accelerates bacterial growth. Food should be properly chilled or heated to minimize the risk. When marinating meats, it should be done in the refrigerator and then cooked to a warm enough temperature, keeping it above 140 degrees Fahrenheit until serving.
