Ex-Pct. 2 deputy claims ousted captain tried to cover up training accident
SUMMARY: Former Bear County Precinct 2 Captain Mark Garcia is fighting for reinstatement amid allegations of misconduct during his tenure. Testimony from ex-deputy Gabriel Morad accused Garcia of attempting to cover up a training incident where bullet fragments ended up in Morad’s forehead, and he allegedly instructed deputies to shred paperwork in 2019. Garcia’s attorney denies these claims, asserting that Garcia served honorably. Garcia, indicted alongside former Constable Michelle Baranta, received immunity in exchange for testifying against her in a criminal case; Baranta is appealing her felony tampering convictions. The Civil Service Commission will decide Garcia’s fate.
A former reserve deputy with the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office testified Monday that ex-captain Marc Garcia took steps to cover up a training accident and later ordered the deputy and other members of the agency to destroy records.

Trump declares invasion at southwest border, suspends entry | National
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump has officially declared an “invasion” at the U.S. southern border, issuing a proclamation to suspend entry and repel this invasion. This historic move follows similar declarations by 55 Texas counties and a formal opinion from Arizona’s former attorney general validating states’ rights to self-defense under the Constitution. Trump asserts that the federal government has failed to uphold its constitutional obligation to protect states from invasion. His proclamation, effective January 20, allows for the suspension of entry for individuals deemed part of this invasion, emphasizing the need for health and background checks and authorizing federal action to remove these individuals.
